Healing Symbols and Stones
by Ann Brigit Waters Weller

Since I was a child, I collected stones. The occasional agate or fossil found it’s way into my hand on the shores of Lake Superior or Lake Michigan, but I mostly loved colorful or strangely shaped stones. I saved many, but they all usually disappeared on their own.

In the 1970's, some of us were discovering further that stones had their own feel, their own energy.... the stones on every beach felt different from the ones to the north or the south, and I began to collect even more stones in my travels - from canyons in Arizona, rivers in Montana and Canada, beaches in California, ...and in fact, I eventually came across the book, "Healing Stoned" by Joel Glick - and suddenly my feelings had names, power to heal, to transform, to relate. I was also creating beaded stone and silver necklaces at the time, and began to make them specifically for certain types of spiritual and physical work.... combining turquoise and lapis for vision and expression, for example....

I met many other people to influence me on this path, and in the early "80's I began to set crystals and gemstones into fabrications of silver and gold. My crystal pendants were chosen for a gallery show in Los Angeles entitled "Jewels of the Empire". As my crystal love and work unfolded, by 1983 I was seeing the relationship between a special piece (all were completely unique, no piece duplicated) in my display case, and the human “customer” walking toward me. Certainly amazing to have them ask to see the crystal that had just called to them a moment before! The stones were choosing their spiritual human partners….

I continue to honor my connection to the sacred stones and metals today in necklaces that combine stones with Celtic and Ancient Symbology in metalwork, and that offer the wearer protection, healing or empowerment.

My personal journey began to evolve in the direction of the Divine Feminine, and in 1985 I sculpted a Goddess Statue Pendant as remembered during an incredible dream about ancient caves, lakes and campfires. She was the Great Mother, and the Mother of all of my designs since that time. My own knowledge of the Goddess and Her timely emergence into our lives at this time has continued to offer me growth and opportunity to create not only manifestations of Her Divine Image, but also Ritual Theater for my community, celebrations of the seasons and renewal times of the year. She has visited me in Her many names - Isis, Inanna, Brigit, Hecate, Kali, Hestia, Saraswati, and . . . . I continue to Priestess Her in circles and spiral gatherings with poetry, dance and visioning.

Discovering Celtic and Pagan roots has inspired further direction, and in textiles, and fantasy/ceremonial clothing I find that the essence of color - just as with garnets, emeralds, and sapphires - is healing and balancing to the senses. So I am blessed to be surrounded in my work with gemstone colors in both cloth and shimmering jewel. My love of stones and crystals will never fade, each one is a part of the spiral journey, a gift of subtle choice, an energy for that specific moment and that particular being - to connect ever closer to the Whole.

Blessed Be All Creation.

Remember the Past, Live in the Present, Create the Future

May we live in Peace and Harmony together on this Jewel we call Mother Earth.
